5 Networking Tips Everyone Should Know!

Dear Diary, Throughout my college experience, I’ve heard from multiple professors and mentors say “grow your network!” or “make sure you’re staying connected with people” or my favorite is “Speak with alumni who have a job you want to have!” I don’t know about you, but hello? I’m in Gen Z...you think I’m actually going to go out of my way and speak to a stranger where there’s a chance I can make a fool of myself? No thank you! But as I’ve been settling more into my junior year, I’ve realized how impactful those little relationships are on your future. One connection can go a long way and can open up doors you wouldn’t have even known were there. I don’t know if this is me “maturing” or me just feeling more comfortable and confident with myself in the business world, but I have found myself taking more opportunities to network and enjoying them!   Onto the real reason you’re here. I wanted to share my top 5 tips everyone should know  when it comes to networking. So whether you

Stop Hating on Influencers Just Because You're Jealous

Dear Diary, Whether you're a marketing student or not, it's no secret that Instagram is the golden ticket when it comes to personal branding. And when it comes to personal branding, influencers are THE masters. Yes, we may make fun of them, or say how silly it is to hear 'I'm really working on just like content creation right now," but you have to admit: We all kind of want to be them. From fitness, to fashion, to foodies, influencers have been taking over the marketing industry and our generation is here for it. Now, let us indulge in the lavish lives that influencers capture daily. Here are just a few that I follow. Ashley aka Best Dressed  I'm not super into YouTube but Best Dressed is one of the few youtubers/influencers that I LOVE. She mainly sticks to fashion, creating look books, giving out styling tips, and even talks about thrifting! She recently started her own brand of accessories and has over 2 million subscribers on Youtube.

Shop 'Til I Tik Tok

Entry #3 Dear Diary, If you know me, or anyone in my generation really, you know we LOVE to spend our money. We shop so much that it is changing the way retailers are marketing their products. Back in the old days, you had to physically get up, make your way to a shopping center, and actually walk around to find clothes you'd want to buy...ugh. Crazy right? But really, because we mainly shop from our phones, marketers and retailers are having to alter their business plans. Gen-Z as consumers are not ones to be ignored. According to an article by Computerweekly.com  , Gen Z’s spending power in 2018 increased by a staggering 23% year-on-year." A major factor that plays into the spending is...you guessed it: ~social media~. One of the main platforms talked about in the article above is Tik Tok. Tik Tok is one of the most recent platforms used among our generation, and it is slowly becoming one of the most impactful. If retailers want to stay a crowd pleaser, they better h

Mads' Favorite Ads

Entry #2:  Dear diary, When I'm swiping through Snapchat stories and come across an ad, I usually close the app instantly because I get so annoyed. But today, I actually sat through a full five seconds and was captivated! 'Don't Test on Humans' The original ad was created by 'truth' the anti-smoking and more recently anti-JUULing campaign. As I'm sure my Gen Z and Millennial friends know, JUULs have swept the nation. JUULling has become a major issue, especially with younger populations. This ad targets any juul user with the main message "NO ONE knows the long-term effects of JUULing." But what I really loved about this ad was the use of cute furry friends to share the important message. The video introduces Mario the Sewer Rat, Doug the Pug, and Cupcake the Hamster who all bring awareness about this super addictive nicotine product. Watch the video below and let me know what you think in the comments! Did Doug the Pug have you con

Dear Diary,

Entry #1 Hello internet companions. My name is Madison Wells. Your friendly, 20-something year old, kind of Millennial kind of Gen Z, marketing student. You may be thinking, 'oh no, here's another girl who just says she's in marketing but really just wants Instagram followers.' But let me tell you here first, you're wrong!  So What's This All About?  Because of our ability to generate new ideas so quickly and technology's constant growth, we are being marketed to 24/7. We live in a world where people are connected through the internet, and the internet is connected to us. Isn't it a coincidence when you want to buy a pair of sneakers, and then you start seeing those same sneakers on every. single. website? Wrong again! It's not a coincidence it is called Big Data my friends and that is just one of the few topics we can talk about on here. The purpose of this blog is to take you behind the scenes of my marketing education in the 21st century,
