Dear Diary,
If you know me, or anyone in my generation really, you know we LOVE to spend our money. We shop so much that it is changing the way retailers are marketing their products. Back in the old days, you had to physically get up, make your way to a shopping center, and actually walk around to find clothes you'd want to buy...ugh. Crazy right? But really, because we mainly shop from our phones, marketers and retailers are having to alter their business plans.
Gen-Z as consumers are not ones to be ignored. According to an article by Computerweekly.com , Gen Z’s spending power in 2018 increased by a staggering 23% year-on-year." A major factor that plays into the spending is...you guessed it: ~social media~.
One of the main platforms talked about in the article above is Tik Tok. Tik Tok is one of the most recent platforms used among our generation, and it is slowly becoming one of the most impactful. If retailers want to stay a crowd pleaser, they better hop on the Tik Tok train ride.
One brand that began using Tik Tok is Pretty Little Thing. Pretty Little Thing sells relatively cheap clothes and always carries the latest fashions. The brand hired a Tik Tok influencer that helps them reach their younger audience, GENIUS! Now, I am not a Tik Tok user myself. Do I think that video is cute? Not really. But, did it make go to their website and buy tops I didn't need? Yes, yes it did. Do I regret it? Maybe. The point is though, they're doing something right.
